20 Blogs Design Tips

20 Blogging Tips

The following are what I consider to be some of the most importing tips for blogging:

1. It’s imperative to think carefully about your niche market before committing to it.

2. I strongly recommend that you do an extensive keyword research, using tools like Google Adword.

3. Choose, If possible, a domain name that includes your keywords or key phrase, and use dashes to separate each keyword, instead of one long, hard to decipher domain name: instead of “rarepicassopaintings.com”, choose “rare-picasso-paintings.com”. And it’s highly recommended that you choose a .com or .net domain.

4. Try to be an expert at, and be passionate about what you write. Readers will soon realise it, if you have only a vague knowledge of what you write about.

5. When designing your blog, be selective in the plugins you choose, and if possible, keep the number down to a minimum, because too many plugins might increase the loading time of your blog, and that can be detrimental.

6. Utilise images, but be mindful that excessive use of images can also slow down the performance of your blog, so far as loading time is concerned.

7. Do not clutter your sidebars.

8. Optimise your blog for search engines – there’re numerous plugins from which you can choose to initiate the optimisation process.

9. Personalise your About Me page as best as possible.

10. Consider including Feedburner and RSS feed in your blog design.

11. Promote your blog by writing and submitting posts on other blogs. Be mindful that excessive posting on irrelevant blogs can be counter productive. Read articles and posts, and leave comments.

12. Join forums such as Warrior and Webring, and article submission sites like Ezinearticles.

13. Write and submit articles on Wikihow, Hubpages, eHow, Digg, Squidoo and Technorati.

14. Utilise the power of Social Media Marketing. If you don’t already have one, open accounts with Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

15. Don’t forget to moderate your comments and if required, respond to them promptly.

16. Visit your commenter’s site, if they have one, and reciprocate the commenting. It all helps to build your traffic.

17. Link not just to your home page, but to the inner pages also, as that enhances your PageRank.

18. Monetize your blog. The most popular ones are Google Adsense and Amazon aStore.

19. Start Affiliate MarketingCommission Junction and OneNetworkDirect are amongst the popular ones, and for ebooks and digital products, Clickbank is perhaps one of the best.

20. Finally, exercise some patience. Keep in mind that it can take time to build traffic and hence start making money, if that’s one of your objectives.
