Baseball Venues in Colorado: Coors Field, Mile High Stadium, Brooks Field, List of Baseball Parks in Denver, Suplizio Field $8.96 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Coors Field – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Coors Field was the first new stadium added in a six year period in which Denver’s sports venues were upgraded, along with Pepsi Center and INVESCO Field at Mile High. It was also the first baseball-only National League Park since Dodger Stadium was built in 1962. As with the other new venues, Coors Field was constructed with accessibility in mind. It sits near Interstate 25 and has direct access to the 20th Street and Park Avenue exits. Nearby Union Station also provides light rail access. Coors Field was originally planned to be somewhat smaller, seating only 43,800. However, after the Rockies drew almost 4.5 million people in their first season at Mile High Stadium – the most in baseball history – the plans were altered during construction, and new seats in the right field upper deck were added. The center field bleacher section has its own informal name: “The Rockpile.” During the 1993 and 1994 seasons when the team played at Mile High Stadium, which was a hybrid football/baseball venue, the Rockpile was located in the south stands, which were in dead center field and very distant from home plate. The same design was incorporated into Coors Field, and is located in deep center field up high. The original Rockpile seats cost a dollar each. During construction, workers discovered a number of dinosaur fossils throughout the grounds, including a 7-foot long 1000 pound triceratops skull. Because of this, “Jurassic Park” was one of the first names to be considered for the stadium. This later led to the selection of a dinosaur as the Rockies’ mascot, “Dinger.” Coors Field was the only major league park with an underground heating system until the construction of Target Field, home of the Minnesota T… More: |

Bottom Of The Ninth $27.37 The majority of baseball fans agree that William “No Chance” LaChance is one of the most dominating right-hand pitchers in baseball. There are also many reasons to dislike LaChance, but who hates him enough for murder?Peg McCarthy, Director of the U.S. Customs Station in North Troy, Vermont, is three weeks from retirement when she’s thrust into the mystery surrounding the suspicious death of LaChance who had just signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Montreal Expos. Driving home in a snowstorm, Peg happens across a minor accident. A black SUV is oddly parked on the side of the road, its driver unconscious and slumped over the wheel. The only witness seems to be LaChance’s traveling companion—his dog Sarek.Peg’s retirement plus her French expertise prompt the Expos to offer her a position as an investigative liaison. When LaChance’s agent, Buckley Roberts, is ‘gunned down’ in a police parking lot, McCarthy and Boston Detective Tim Snow work to discover the link between the deaths of LaChance and Roberts. The violent events that follow lead Peg to the uncomfortable conclusion that, while she and Snow examine the clues to a string of murders and attacks, she and Sarek are in the crosshair sights of a serial assassin.AboutAuthor:Tanya Dehart resides in Maryland and is a graduate of Penn State University. Mother of two, she has spent nearly twenty years in the field of Dietetics and for the last thirteen years has specialized in Geriatric Nutrition. Japanese Automotive Engineers: Soichiro Honda $10.37 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Sichir Honda ( , Honda Sichir, November 17, 1906 August 5, 1991) was a Japanese engineer and industrialist, and founder of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.. Soichiro was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan. Honda spent his early childhood helping his father, Gihei, a blacksmith, with his bicycle repair business. At the time his mother, Mika, was a weaver. At 15, without any formal education, Honda left home and headed to Tokyo to look for work. He obtained an apprenticeship at a garage in 1922, and after some vacillation over his employment, he stayed for six years, working as a car mechanic before returning home to start his own auto repair business in 1928 at the age of 22. In 1937 Honda began producing piston rings for small engines which lead to manufacturing small engines to be used in motorcycles, and then in 1948 he started producing complete motorcycles as president of the Honda Motor Company. Honda turned the company into a billion-dollar multinational that produced the best-selling motorcycles in the world. Honda’s excellent engineering and clever marketing resulted in Honda motorcycles out-selling Triumph and Harley-Davidson in their respective home markets. In 1959 Honda Motorcycles opened its first dealership in the United States. Honda remained president until his retirement in 1973, stayed on as director, and was appointed “supreme adviser” in 1983. His legendary status was such that People magazine placed him on their “25 Most Intriguing People of the Year” list for 1980, dubbing him “the Japanese Henry Ford.” In retirement Honda busied himself with work connected with the Honda Foundation. He died in 1991 from liver failure. Soichiro Honda was born in Tenryu on November 17, 1906. His father, Gihei Honda, was the local blacksmith but could… More: |

Plain Heathen Mischief $0.01 Of The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living, Martin Clark’s first novel, the New York Times Book Review wrote, Like Nick Hornby in High Fidelity and Thomas McGuane in Nothing But Blue Skies, Clark has produced an oddly stirring portrait of a man in existential disarray. Which-noted Malcolm Jones in Newsweek- made me laugh so hard I fell off the sofa. Plain Heathen Mischief ups the existential ante, as Joel King, a defrocked Baptist minister, finds life even more bedeviling once he’s served six months for a career-ending crime he might not even have committed. Now his incommunicado wife wants a divorce, the teenage vixen of his disgrace is suing him for a cool $5 million, a fresh start in Montana offers no hope for ex-cons of any religious persuasion, and the refuge provided by his sister turns as nasty as his parole officer. Talk about a crisis of faith. On the upside, a solicitous member of Joel’s former congregation invites him into a scam that could yield some desperately needed cash, and soon the down-on-his-luck preacher is involved with a flock of charming con men, crooked lawyers, and conniving youth. In a feat of bravura storytelling, Martin Clark ranges from the cross to the double cross, from Virginia to Las Vegas, from jail cells to trout streams, as he follows his Job-like hero through dubious choices and high-dollar insurance hustles to a redemption that no reader could possibly predict. Wildly imaginative, at times comic, at times profoundly sobering, and even more audacious than his wonderfully idiosyncratic debut, Plain Heathen Mischief is a spiritual revelation of the first order. |

Tales of South Jersey $4.64 There’s much more to southern New Jersey than the Pine Barrens and the Jersey Devil, and this collection by journalists Jim Waltzer and Tom Wilk tells readers all about it. Oceanside and bayside towns offer a box seat from which to observe the region’s rich history and the summery lore of the wonders of nature. And the land-locked towns boast their own homespun and hellraising traditions and idiosyncrasies.Waltzer and Wilk have compiled almost fifty stories about the state’s southernmost counties. While the focus is on Atlantic City and its remarkable people, outsize structures, and quirky events, the storytelling ranges across the wider region to provide an insider’s look at history as it was being made. You’ll encounter gangsters and gamblers, baseball hitters and hurricanes, famous piers and hotels, landmark theaters and eateries, splashy events and unheralded oddities — in sum, a cross-section of the region’s character and characters. The authors divide their book into six sections — entertainment (recalling the 1969 Atlantic City Pop Festival); famous and infamous events (describing the 1944 hurricane that nearly destroyed Atlantic City); innovations and innovators (introducing readers to Sara Spencer Washington, an African American entrepreneur who founded a million-dollar business in the 1940s); leisure and recreation (taking us to the weekly Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove Township); room and board (recounting the fascinating history the Seaview Country Club, now the Seaview Marriott Resort, home to a world-class golf course since 1912); and sports legends, like base-ball player John Henry Lloyd, known as the black Honus Wagner. This is just a sampling of the rich and variedstories Waltzer and Wilk have collected for New Jerseyans’ reading pleasure. |

Excerpt: Bionic Six Bionic Six is an American/Japanese animated television series from the 1980s, produced by TMS Entertainment and distributed by Studios USA and MCA Television (later renamed NBC/Universal Television ). The renowned Japanese animation director Osamu Dezaki was involved as chief supervising director. His distinctive style (i.e. Astroboy , Golgo 13 , Cobra ) is very noticeable. The main character of the series, ‘Bionic-1′, is a machine-enhanced human being by means of bionic technology, much like The Six Million Dollar Man . On a vacation in the Himalayas, Bionic-1 and his family were set testing out newly-designed ski equipment. They were attacked by aliens and during the battle, in which Jack reveal his abilities to his children for the first time, an avalanche occurs and the Bennetts are all buried alive under radioactive snow. All, but Jack (whose bionics made him immune to the radioactivity), are thrown into paralytic coma. Unsure about how to save them, Bionic-1 brings the family to his boss Professor Sharp’s lab. Sharp deduces that the bionic augmenting process that Bionic-1 underwent, would nullify the effects of the radioactivity. Each family member was given a specific bionic power, and thus they formed a team named Bionic Six. Plot In the near future, Earth is at grave risk from a wide variety of menaces from aliens to mad scientists. Professor Sharp, head of the Special Projects Labs (SPL), creates a new form |
